Fall Camp Day 2018

8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Current 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are invited to ignite their interests in leadership, sports, design, and the arts in classes and clinics taught by high school level coaches and teachers.

 

Schedule

Drop-off – 8:00 – 8:25 a.m.

Session 1 – 8:30 – 10:15 a.m.

Session 2 – 10:25 a.m. – 12:10 p.m.

Lunch – 12:15 – 12:55 p.m. (Pizza, chips, dessert & drink provided for all participants. Bagged lunches from home are also welcome.)

Session 3 – 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Pick-up – 3:00 p.m.

Session 1 Offerings

Batik: Creating with Wax and Fabric Dye

 Closed: This session is full 

Students will learn about the traditional art of Batik, working with wax and fabric dye. All supplies will be provided to complete your own Batik creation!

Physics in Motion Creation Lab

 Closed: This session is full 

Students will learn the theoretical science behind motion. They will then create, observe, measure, and test objects that put those theories to the test.

Yoga and Nutrition

Participants will take part in a yoga session and will also make their own protein bars while learning about nutrition and healthy lifestyles. Make sure to bring active wear and water.

Intro to Computer Design with Adobe Suite

A hands-on introduction to Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator is offered for students who want to learn the basics of completing design projects on the computer.

Student Government Convocation

This convocation, specially designed for student government representatives, will give participants the perfect opportunity to assess the needs of their communities, plan programs for the year, and learn effective leadership strategies.

Session One Sports Offerings:

Dominican’s sports clinics give participants the opportunity to develop the fundamental skills that are key to experiencing success. Participants with any experience or skill level will get personal attention from high school level coaches. Make sure to bring active wear and water. Baseball participants should bring a glove. Bats and helmets are welcome but not required.

Theatre Behind the Scenes Experience

Come get a special back stage preview of Dominican’s fall musical. You will learn about costumes, rehearsal experiences, makeup, light and sound design, and get an in-depth tour of Dominican’s renowned theatre.

Experimental Painting

Students will learn about and play with experimental painting techniques. All materials will be provided to complete your own painted masterpiece!

Session 3 Offerings

Premiere of Dominican’s musical:The Spitfire Grill

Be in the audience for the premiere performance of Dominican’s production of The Spitfire Grill. This musical, set in rural Wisconsin, tells the story of Percy Talbot who has just been released from a five year prison sentence. The local sheriff, Joe Sutter, who is also Percy’s parole officer, finds her a job at Hannah’s Spitfire Grill – the only eatery in this struggling town. The Spitfire Grill is for sale. But with no interested buyers, Hannah decides to raffle it off. Entry fees are one hundred dollars and the best essay on why you want the grill wins. This musical triumph is an inspiring celebration of fresh starts and the power of what one person can do.
